MacA&D 4.1 and WinA&D 7.1 Adds Business Process Models

MacA&D 4.1 and WinA&D 7.1 add Business Process Model diagrams plus table editing, user interface and requirements management enhancements.

Excel Software announced enhancements to its MacA&D and WinA&D applications for requirements management, system and software design, code generation and flexible report generation. The newly added Business Process Model Notation supports Collaboration, Process, Choreography and Conversation diagrams. The new release includes color and editing features in the Table editor, improved integration between diagram and definition entries for requirements and use cases, plus usability enhancements to menu commands, toolbars, tool palettes, cursors and diagram drawing.

The Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN 2.0) presents the notation, semantics and best practices within the business community to understand internal business procedures and graphically document them for effective communication and management. MacA&D and WinA&D adds a diagram editor specifically designed to draw BPMN diagrams that include Event, Activity, Gateway, Data, Message and Pool objects. BPMN defines a rich notation of object shapes, borders, icons, markers and connection symbols to convey specific meaning to nodes and connections in a business process.

Business Process Models are fully integrated with other features including requirements management, data dictionary, UML, structured analysis & design, data models, system models with simulation, code generation or reengineering and scriptable report generation.

The Requirements windows defines requirement and use case entries through a Definition Dialog controlled by a user defined template of field values, choices and text editing sections. Main and alternate scenarios can be defined for each use case. Entries can be linked to requirement and use case diagrams or other deliverables in the design, code or test process. New entries can be generated from drawn diagrams using an Entry Name dialog that applies a naming convention, entry organization and definition template.

Supported table types include Decision Tables, Process Activation Tables, Event Lists and State Transition Tables. A default background color can be applied to each cell type to enhance understanding of the presented data. Other enhancements to the table editor include buttons to quickly change properties, add or remove tables and add new rows and columns.

MacA&D and WinA&D can accept drag and drop of image files from the desktop onto any diagram editor. MacA&D supports drag and drop from a diagram editor to the desktop to create a JPG image file.

MacA&D 4.1 runs on all Mac OS X computers with an Intel processor. WinA&D 7.1 runs on Windows XP through Windows 8. The Standard edition is $495, Desktop edition $1195 and Developer edition $1995 with Site Licenses available. The product includes printed and PDF user guides, a help system and a growing library of free demonstration and training videos on the vendor website.
