Mamankam monuments get a make over

Online, September 3, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The renovation of Mamankam monuments that are tell tales of the legendary festival of Mamankam held once in every 12 years at Thirunavaya, has brought cheers to Kerala. After a long spell of gross negligence from government, finally these relics will get back their cultural glory when the renovation works set off on August 31.

Under the Nila tourism project, the local-level Tourist Destination Council, with the support of Archeology Department will renovate Changamballi Kalari, 'Nilapaduthara', 'Manikkinar', 'Pazhukkamandapam' and 'Marunnara', which were closely associated with the historical event 'Mamankam',

KITCO is the implementing agency of the project. The KSEB, which owns 4.5 acres of land in which Marunnara is situated, will hand over the land to facilitate the renovation work, which is expected to be completed by January 2011. The renovation of Mamankam monuments will boost the tourism potential of the region in the coming days.
