Man Up, Woman Up: Healing Black Love

Man Up, Woman Up takes a different look at relationships and states racism as the main cause of failed Black male/female relationships.

Award winning author Toni Odom doesn't think like a man and states the Black male/female relationship has been under attack since slavery in her new ebook, "Man Up, Woman Up."

"The basic male/female relationship is the building block of families which then build communities. The best way to break a community or family then would be to destroy that building block," Odom said.

Man Up, Woman Up examines how these attacks have taken place and how they have produced attitudes and behavior that foster unhealthy relationships that have negatively impacted the family structure of the Black communtiy. The book also examines how the media contributes to negative images and how various types of relationships have been manufactured as a result.

"It's the effects of racism that have affected our relationships but it is still the responsibility of Black men and women to understand these effects and change their behavior. We must not blame each other and must take control of our lives to build healthy relationships that will rebuild the Black community." Odom said.

Man Up, Woman Up identifies what Black men and women must do to build stronger relationships and gives examples of ways to heal and work together.

"We are not enemies and my goal for this book is for us to restore our community." Odom said.

Odom is an award winning writer of another book entitled Sistahs N SistahHood (Winner of the 2000 Best Nonfiction Title from Sister Circle Book Club) and winner of the 2012 LA Web Festival for her Soap Opera Webisode, Ahshe (http://www.ahshe.com).
