MapsWithMe Maps Are Pre-installed on YotaPhone Smartphones
The new YotaPhone smartphone which has just been launched by Yota Devices goes on sale with MapsWithMe app pre-installed on it.
Online, December 8, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Russian manufacturer of world's first dual screen smartphone YotaPhone and maps provider MapsWithMe GmbH has partnered several months ago to make the map data more accessible and usable even if the smartphone's battery power is low. On the 4th of December the sales of YotaPhone device with the MapsWithMe app preloaded started in Russia, Germany, Spain, France and Austria.
YotaPhone is the first dual-screen Android smartphone which uses electronic paper display technology to preserve smartphone battery power. With the always-on second screen users now can assess the information they need without waking up the device.
Specially developed and adapted for dual-screen YotaPhone, MapsWithMe app allows map data to be viewed on the always-on e-ink display as well as on the main screen. The basic features remain the same as in the app versions distributed on the app stores. Users can download an unlimited number of maps, detect current location and save a place to bookmarks. With a tap on the put-to-back button on the main display, the map is transferred to the second screen and stays there even if the battery power is low.
"We are very glad that, thanks to the partnership with Yota Devices, we can provide better maps experience to YotaPhone users and support its unique always-on e-ink display. It was an interesting challenge for us to design a map for the black-and-white screen. We look forward to more such partnerships with smartphone and tablet manufacturers in the future," said Yury Melnichek, MapsWithMe CEO.
By the end of Q1 2014, YotaPhone is planned to be sold in 20 CIS, European and Middle East markets.
