Mardi Gras Themed Block Party To Promote Small Businesses Adjacent To The BLVD Gains City Support
"We're proud supporters of the BLVD initiative but we businesses south of the BLVD need an event like this to bring awareness and traffic to our small businesses" Mrs. Reeves adds.
Online, March 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The proposed Off The BLVD Mardi Gras Block Party gained the support of the BLVD Association during their weekly board meeting February 15, 2011. With Association sponsored support, the Block Party organizer Diane Reeves owner at Perk Place Coffee House, moves forward with creating an event the AV has yet seen. The Off The BLVD Mardi Gras Block Party is being orchestrated to promote local downtown businesses that aren't located directly on the BLVD, hence the event's title. Lancaster BLVD will not be closed during the five hour event to be held from 4p.m.-9p.m. on Saturday March 26, 2011, and all proceeds will be allocated to the BLVD Association's promotional budget.
"We've been a part of the downtown community for several years and have yet hosted an event of this magnitude on streets adjacent to the BLVD" Mrs. Reeves says. "We're proud supporters of the BLVD initiative but we businesses south of the BLVD need an event like this to bring awareness and traffic to our small businesses" Mrs. Reeves adds. The Mardi Gras themed Block Party is to be held on three known downtown Lancaster streets; Milling St., Beech Ave., and Cedar St. Currently, The Cedar Centre, a downtown landmark. has come aboard to help provide entertainment for the event, and Waste Management has come on as an official sponsor.
Per event plans, Beech Ave. will be home to children's entertainment and informational booths while Cedar Ave. will host entertainment and vendors geared towards the young adult crowd. "A family oriented, carnivale-like experience is what we're aiming to produce," Mrs. Reeves continues. "Milling St. will host the food court, live jazz and rock bands and the beer and wine garden to appease adult interests," Mrs. Reeves says. Public Attendance is free and because the event is non-profit, local businesses are encouraged to sponsor the event in exchange for promotion. Some businesses have even decided to barter their services in exchange for promotion.
Perk Place Coffee House has been a downtown force for seven years bringing gourmet coffee in a cozy family environment. Keeping with the family atmosphere, Perk Place offers free WIFI and a stocked bakery for dining convenience.
