Maryland Transit Administration Selects MJM Innovations to Manage Taxi Access II Program
Premium Taxi Service Provides Increased Independence for Individuals with Disabilities
Online, March 30, 2011 (Newswire.com) - MJM Innovations, a firm specializing in electronic transaction software solutions for the transportation industry and management services, announced today that it has renewed its contract with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) to continue administering the Taxi Access II program. MJM Innovations oversaw the development and implementation of the Taxi Access II premium service model that provides on-demand taxi service for individuals with disabilities and has continued to manage and support all aspects pertaining to the program since its inception in 2004.
Taxi Access II is available to MTA-certified Mobility customers who meet the eligibility requirements. Patrons in the program can take up to two $20.00 taxi rides per day within the MTA-approved service area. Customers pay $3.00 for each ride and there are currently 10 cab/sedan companies participating in the program.
MJM Innovations provides the infrastructure and systems behind Taxi Access II, which utilizes the firm's EZTransport® solution, a proprietary, Web-based software and processing application that uses magnetic swipe cards to enable automated fare collection and capture fare and trip data. MJM Innovations currently issues all of the Taxi Access II cards to eligible riders, provides the MTA with the GPS and fare collection data for every ride facilitated by the program, and works with the participating taxi and sedan companies to ensure each vehicle has the necessary equipment to process Taxi Access II cards.
"Taxi Access II offers greater opportunities for independence and flexibility for individuals with disabilities," said Sheila Goldberg, executive director, MJM Innovations. "For traditional para-transit transportation, a rider must schedule their ride no later than the day before, and usually has to share a vehicle with other riders. With Taxi Access II, riders call a taxi company directly with as little as 40 minutes notice and then travel directly to their destinations. Taxi Access II's real time, on-demand service offers spontaneity and freedom of choice that enables individuals to lead more active lives. Our company is honored to be able to continue working with the MTA to provide this valuable service."
