Mayor Randy Hope Reveals Why the Community of Chatham-Kent Leads Canada in Renewable Energy Projects to Energy Digital
Online, September 17, 2010 (Newswire.com) - (San Diego, CA). In an interview with Energy Digital, the leaders of Chatham-Kent, Ontario discuss the environmental and economic benefits that renewable energy projects have on the community and the drive to entice more companies to the area.
"One of the strategic initiatives for the Municipality was to attract $3 billion of sustainable renewable energy," says Stuart McFadden, Manager of Business Development.
Sustainable renewable energy projects include solar and wind farms. In fact, the community has over 21 wind farms to date, which house a total of 544 turbines. "Wind turbines have been part of what we've been working on in our overall strategy," says Mayor Randy Hope.
The community works with local businesses, including Greenfield Ethanol and Torque Energy, and the local colleges to develop renewable energy projects that conform to its strategic plan. A constant focus on the strategy has allowed Chatham-Kent to become a model for other communities seeking sustainable green economies.
