Online, April 11, 2012 (Newswire.com) - McMillin Realty agents Chris Lewis and Gary Nordstrom have been part of a team diligently working to bring a new YMCA to the South Bay Community. The Bayside YMCA will be located at Feaster Elementary School, serving an area that is in desperate need for a facility of YMCA caliber. Bayside YMCA is a collaborative effort between the YMCA's Board of Management and the Chula Vista Elementary School District, who both recognize the importance of the Y's presence in the surrounding community.
"It's not a want to, it's a must have," said Mr. Lewis, "This area is in dire need of the Y's services. There are no parks or recreational opportunities within a half mile of the school. We need to expand, to get out there and serve our community." According to Mr. Lewis, who sits on the Facilities Committee at the South Bay Family YMCA, Bayside YMCA will provide childcare and after school programs, among other services, offering a safe environment for kids. "The Y nurtures kids' potential and fosters their growth as an individual," continued Mr. Lewis, "Kids learn lessons that are essential at a young age in order to thrive later on in life."
In a time of fiscal shaving, the YMCA's non-profit status is a great benefit. "As publicly run and funded parks and recreation services are cutting back on maintenance and hours, the YMCA is poised to maintain its facilities and programs," added Mr. Lewis.
The McMillin family has been involved with the South Bay Family YMCA for decades, offering support and partnership ever since the Corky McMillin Companies began building homes in the surrounding neighborhoods and communities. Holding true to the McMillin principles, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Nordstrom are part of a team of dedicated philanthropists who have poured tirelessly over this project. Through their ceaseless efforts, they are on the verge of making their community a better place.
"I got involved with the Y because there is something about seeing people who depend on us for health and social skills improve their lives," concluded Mr. Lewis, "You can see the difference you make in this community. People are totally transformed through our programs and services." The YMCA is committed to ensure that every individual in the community has access to essential needs so they may learn, grow, and thrive.
The YMCA has applied for a grant to cover a large portion of the new facility's cost. The rest of the capital is going to be raised through donations. For more information or to donate to the Bayside YMCA, please call Tina Williams, 619-421-8805.
