MedicalMine Inc. Launches Automatic Insurance Card Reader Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Technology in CharmHealth Products

CharmHealth products now use cutting-edge AI/Image recognition for automated insurance card reading Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract patient insurance information from scanned insurance cards, to improve accuracy in insurance claim submissions.

Charmhealth suite of products, created by MedicalMine Inc., is a leading comprehensive cloud-based solution that includes Electronic Health Records (EHR), Practice Management (PM), and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) for independent medical practices.

Charmhealth suite of products is designed to bring the latest cutting-edge technologies to the fingertips of busy physicians and practice management professionals. With that goal in mind, they bring the latest in Artificial Intelligence-based image recognition technologies to solve a pain point for insurance billing professionals: cumbersome manual entry and error-prone patient insurance details. This has the downstream effect of claim rejections and further delays in reimbursements.

According to an article published by MGMA, 69% of healthcare leaders report that their organization's denials have increased by an average of 17% in the year 2021. At almost 27%, registration and eligibility remain the top reason for denials. CharmHealth's goal is to reduce these numbers through judicious automation.

The new OCR feature in CharmEHR extracts vital data from the patient's insurance card without manual intervention. It identifies the Insured's ID, Insured person's name, Group number, Policy name, Payer Name, Contact details, validity dates, etc., and automatically transfers them to the corresponding data fields. The process can be completed by either scanning or uploading the image file.

"Timely reimbursement is critical for a medical practice, and billing and practice management professionals work tirelessly to submit accurate claims and minimize rejections. We hope that this automatic recognition of the data on insurance cards brings much-needed tools like OCR to help reduce errors and claim rejections. This is a prime example of how CharmHealth brings cutting-edge AI-based technologies to practice management professionals, to reduce burnout and improve productivity," says Pramila Srinivasan, CEO, MedicalMine Inc.
