Melbourne Senior Community Raises Awareness and Key Funds for Local Humane Society

MELBOURNE, Fla., July 19, 2019 (Newswire.com) - ​Discovery Village At Melbourne presented a $300 cash donation to the Brevard Humane Society, following the senior living community’s wildly successful Hot Dogs for the Dogs Charity Event. The donated funds will go toward providing food and much-needed care for the shelter’s resident animals as they await new forever homes.

The event featured an expansive hot dog bar, complete with all the toppings and other delicious treats for both animals and humans. Upwards of 60 area residents and plenty of pets were in attendance and were treated to live music and entertainment, raffle prizes, mobile pet grooming and free gifts from local businesses. 

“Pets help brighten and enrich the lives of so many residents of Discovery Village At Melbourne,” said Executive Director Ken VanDyck. “It’s with a great deal of love and appreciation that we partner with the Brevard Humane Society to support a cause that’s near and dear to our community—helping homeless animals in our local area.”

The Hot Dogs for the Dogs event took place on Wednesday, June 26, at Discovery Village At Melbourne, but some don’t want to wait until next summer to do it again.

“I’ve already had multiple calls come in asking when we would be doing the event again,” said Senior Lifestyle Counselor Pat Mahon.
