Don't throw out the old for the new--that's the common thread in CommCore CEO Andrew Gilman's preface on new developments in Media Training for the 2011 edition of the PRNews Media Training Guidebook.

PRNews asked Gilman to provide perspective based upon his three decades as a media trainer. Though technology and media are constantly changing, Gilman points out that core media training concepts have stayed constant even as they have adapted to new media environments and increased specialization. Crafting strong messages, targeting your specific audience, media outlets or online communities, and thorough preparation remain essential.

"Speed, monitoring, and adapting messages are even more critical to balancing stories and making sure the messages are delivered," says Gilman about the article: "State of Media Training: Specialists Rule & The Outlets Have Diversified,"

CommCore Principal, Jerry Doyle also has an article in the guidebook titled "How to Media Train Your Spokesperson for Video Capture." The article emphasis the importance of being prepared for video capture in additional to standard interview for print/on-line story.

"Journalists often choose the video clip that was more fluid, looked good, sounded better - not the one with the most compelling content" says Doyle.
