Metal Foundations' Steel Foundations Support Award-Winning PV Array

Metal Foundations congratulates Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ for being recognized by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA)and the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) as one of the three most distinct photovoltaic projects of 2011.

Pittsburgh, Pa / Yuma, Az / Fort Worth, TX - Metal Foundations Industries (MFI), a Pittsburgh-based company that specializes in the design, engineering and installation of steel foundations, would like to congratulate Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ for being recognized by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) as one of the three most distinct photovoltaic projects of 2011. The announcement and ceremony took place at PV America's annual conference in San Jose, CA.

Arizona Western College's 23-acre photovoltaic installation, which brings together five distinct PV technologies, is the first of its kind in the country to combine the priorities of workforce development, R&D, and utility scale energy generation. This system is composed of five one-megawatt sites across the campus, and will offset nearly 100% of the campus's daytime electricity, while saving the College approximately $62 Million over the lifetime of the contract.

Metal Foundations was selected by Rosendin Electric, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the project, to design and install 1,712 steel foundations for four, of the five photovoltaic technologies installed at Arizona Western College. Main Street Power Company, Inc. was the solar financier, PPA Partners was the developer, and Arizona Public Service (APS) was the local utility.

"We are thrilled that Arizona Western College has been recognized for its forward-thinking approach to alternative energy, and we are proud to have had a role in the development of the award-winning PV Project," said Geoffrey Feidelberg, CEO of Metal Foundations Industries. "With many benefits over standard concrete foundations, MFI's patented steel foundations were selected as the foundation of choice by Rosendin Electric because they are a proven, reliable, and less expensive alternative to concrete foundations."

MFI's steel foundations have many benefits over standard concrete foundations. The strongest advantage is that MFI's patented designs and installation processes completely eliminate the need for concrete; therefore foundations are installed in less than half the time it takes to install standard concrete foundations and all of the costly procedures and time restraints that are associated with concrete foundation installations are eliminated.

Metal Foundations' patented designs and installation processes require minimal digging and equipment, allowing for easy installation in various soil conditions, in any weather, and in any location. MFI's steel foundations can also be easily removed if necessary, which in some cases eliminates sales tax liability. This can be very beneficial to companies in the alternative energy industry who are required to remove their equipment after a specified period of time.

With many advantages over concrete foundations, Metal Foundations offers a truly innovative, time-efficient, and cost-effective solution for foundation installations in the alternative energy industry.
