Metal Separators and Sorting Systems for the Plastics Industry

At the K-2013 trade fair S+S presented machines and systems for increasing efficiency.

At the K 2013 trade fair S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH presented metal detectors and separators for the plastics producing and processing industries, and a sorting system for application in plastics recycling. Christian Stadler, S+S product manager in the Plast Business Unit, gives a fully positive summary of the trade fair: "Our expectations for the K 2013 were completely fulfilled. In the eight trade fair days we welcomed more than 800 visitors at our trade fair stand. We were able to make many new business contacts and to further strengthen existing contacts. The K 2013 trade fair is an excellent environment for the development of international relations also for medium-sized companies such as S+S."

The Rapid Pro-Sense metal separator had its premiere at the K trade fair. Rapid Pro-Sense is a system for free-fall applications and with innovative HRF technology (High Resolution Frequency) offers an extremely high scanning sensitivity for all metals. The metal separator is specifically designed for the requirements of plastics and compound producers.

Despite the presentation of the new system S+S also did not neglect proven metal detectors that are used in the plastics processing industry. Because production efficiency and process precision quickly come to an end if metal particles block hot runners and back-stops for example in injection moulding machines. S+S metal separators protect processing machines against damage that is caused by metal particles in the granulate and thus reduce machine downtimes and production losses.

A Flake Purifier sorting system also was presented at the S+S trade fair stand. Based on a modular concept, up to three sensors for contaminant detection can be combined in this system. Sorting systems of this type primarily are used in PET and HDPE recycling, but there also is a growing demand from the field of mixed-plastics recycling. Michael Perl, manager of the Sorting Business Unit at S+S, is highly satisfied with the course and result of the K trade fair: "At this year's trade fair there was a noticeably great number of visitors from South America who were interested in the Flake Purifier. Visitors who already are working with Flake Purifier sorting systems confirmed their efficiency and reliability."
