Michael Barber prepares launch of Universal Debut Album.
Michael Barber, a touring musician, is set to release his debut album on Universal Records. After a Co-sign from the biggest name in hip hop, Nas, and working with the Mighty Wu Tang on an unreleased album, Michael Barber is here.
Online, March 24, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Singer/Song Writer, Producer, Rapper, or whatever you want to call him, Michael Barber is gearing up for his first major label album, and the world is either ready or not. Shotguns and Canned Goods has an A list of super stars behind it, from classics like The Doors, to a Dr. Dre protege, to possible the best artist breaker of the last decade.
Barber has been on the brink of putting out many major label deals in the past but all the material seems to get either put on lock due to label constraints or just never put out. Michael had an album of unreleased material leak with production from the mighty Wu Tang Clan. Barber who had been dealing with a drug addiction, hit the scene running with a Nas Co-sign, and was looking at a song writers deal with Sony. Bad Boy Records was involved in the song writing aspect of the deal, but it again went astray due to Barber failing to give up his publishing rights.
After a stint in rehab, Barber is back now armed with over 700 songs, he put out the 2nd installment of his Motion Picture Mayhem series in December as a free download, in February it hit Itunes and sold close to 8,800 in two weeks alone after being a free download. Barber had his mix tape with DJ Fade downloaded over 100,000 times registered on freeware and websites. Men lie, women lie, numbers don't.
Michael Barber's debut album, Shotguns and Canned Goods, features production from non other than Dr. Dre's protege producer, Focus. It also features Grammy nominated rap group Nappy Roots member B.Stille.
Barber was signed by Multi-Platinum Universal Exec, Jonathan Hay after releasing the two part movie series online. Hay has been the name behind some of the biggest stars in music including Rihanna and the rock group, Days of a New, that spent 18 weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard Charts. This album will be available on his umbrella label with Universal Records, Hoopla Media Group.
The album was recorded at a hand built studio, Aquemini Beach Front Studios, built by Barber himself, and the other half was recorded at Big Shot Studios home to over 70 platinum records and Ray Manzarek of the Doors was involved in some aspect of the recording.
The big names are there, and Michael seemed to already deliver with his song, "She's My Pennie Lane", a country type feel song about giving up drugs. The song has registered BDS spins in Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Indiana, Wisconson, and Michigan. Michael is set to tour again this summer to promote his record.
