Michael Morsberger, a National Leader in Healthcare Philanthropy, Joins GOBEL
The former Johns Hopkins Medicine, Duke Medicine, and University of Virginia Health executive joins the firm's senior leadership team.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 20, 2023 (Newswire.com) - GOBEL, the world's leading consulting and technology firm serving healthcare philanthropy, is pleased to announce Michael Morsberger has joined the company as its Senior Vice President and Leader for its Academic Medicine practice.
A philanthropic leader and strategist, Morsberger brings more than 30 years of unparalleled experience in healthcare philanthropy to GOBEL. From his start in healthcare fundraising with Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, to leading multiple billion-dollar campaigns at several of the nation's most-respected academic medical centers, Morsberger is frequently called a "change agent" to help organizations and teams escalate their impact.
"I have known Mike for several decades as a friend, colleague, and inspirational leader," said Chad Gobel, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at GOBEL. "He has worked among the top institutions in the world, managing large teams that have raised hundreds of millions in annual support, while effectively partnering with the C-suite, big boards, world-class physicians, and some of the top philanthropists in the world.
"Even more than his professional experience, Mike is an exceptional human being—someone who leads from his heart and truly cares about people. GOBEL is very fortunate to now count Mike among our talented team members, and there is no doubt he will have a significant impact on our clients' success."
Morsberger's executive fundraising experience spans senior leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine, the University of Virginia Health System, Duke Medicine, George Washington University, University of Central Florida, and Jupiter Medical Center Foundation in Southeast Florida. He has worked with several of the world's most generous philanthropists and frequently represented his institutions abroad in Europe and Asia.
"One of the best callings in the world is to raise money for a mission that matters," Morsberger said. "For more than three decades, I've had that privilege. Whether it has been for medical research, advanced patient care, or scholarships for future doctors, there's nothing more satisfying than making a difference in the lives of patients."
Morsberger's new role will expand GOBEL's already-impressive client list of academic medical center organizations, including Mass General Brigham, the University of Miami Health System, Emory Health, University of Utah Health, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine, and many others.
Beyond his professional experience, Morsberger is a proud two-time cancer survivor and open-heart surgery survivor—offering a unique perspective and appreciation for the patients, doctors, researchers, nurses, and staff making a difference every day.
"I can say without any hesitation that the work of our healthcare professionals is truly heroic, and I know as a grateful patient that philanthropy is not only transformative to a medical center but an important part of a patient and family's healing experience."
While a fundraiser by day, Morsberger remains an active community volunteer and mentor to future development professionals. In 2020, he was honored with the prestigious Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Commonfund College and University Foundation Award for his distinguished leadership and valuable contributions to the profession.
A Baltimore native now living in Orlando, Morsberger has served on more than two dozen nonprofit boards and is a sought-after speaker on philanthropy and fundraising strategy for national advancement, development, and medical associations, including CASE, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Association of Fundraising Professionals, and Association of American Medical Colleges, among others. He holds degrees and certifications from Radford University, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, University of Virginia, and Johns Hopkins University.
