Michigan Business Leader Lori Blaker, President/CEO of TTi Global Travels to Oslo, Norway to Accept the 2018 Oslo Business for Peace Award
Bloomfield Hills, MI, May 23, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Lori Blaker accepted the prestigious Business for Peace award on May 16th at the Oslo City Hall in Oslo, Norway. She was recognized for her business performance in the US, as well as developing economies around the world including India and Afghanistan.
Joining Blaker in receiving the Business for Peace award were two other recipients, Edgar Montenegro, Founder and CEO of Corpocampo, and Martin Naughton, Founder of Glen Dimplex Group.
The three award winners were selected by an independent committee of Nobel prize winners in Peace and Economics who are recognized globally for their moral and professional contribution to mankind.
Blaker was honored for her courage and exceptional efforts in Afghanistan where she opened a retail Automotive Service Center and Training Center in Kabul in 2016. There she developed a special training program for local women to learn management skills in an industry where they would be traditionally barred. Through her efforts, much-needed job opportunities were created in the facility, which employs both men and women.
“Businesses can be crucial in identifying issues and challenges in their communities both socially and economically,” said Blaker. “It’s important, especially in today’s political climate, that we use this knowledge to drive change and growth in our world."
H.E. Ms. Amina J Mohammed of United Nations gave the opening address. Leymah Gbowee, Nobel Peace Laureate and activist gave the annual State of the Union keynote address on the relationship between business and society. Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
