Michigan Trucking Association Helps Make Dreams Come True

Michigan Trucking Association’s (MTA) Detroit Chapter Equipment & Maintenance Council today presented the children’s charity The Rainbow Connection with a $10,000 donation. The contribution is in lieu of money raised at the chapter’s annual golf outing, unexpectedly canceled due to the pandemic.

The Rainbow Connection, headquartered in Rochester, Michigan, makes wishes come true for Michigan children with life-threatening medical conditions. In addition, the charity provides support services to eligible wish families in need.

Detroit Chapter Equipment & Maintenance Council President Rick Krstich says it was the right thing to do. “The council has supported The Rainbow Connection for more than 15 years. Usually, they receive funds at our annual golf outing, but this year we had to cancel. We decided that we were not going to let the kids down, especially during this stressful time. The trucking industry continues to roll and so should The Rainbow Connection.”

MTA President & CEO Mickey Blashfield agrees. “MTA is proud of these council members. They stepped up, not back, when it looked like The Rainbow Connection would be left with a major budget hole. This is a perfect example of how Michigan trucking supports the community on and off the road, even with the major challenges of COVID-19. We are proud that MTA efforts can grant wishes for children while still making our essential deliveries.”

The Detroit Chapter Equipment & Maintenance Council is a regional affiliate of MTA focused on mechanics, technicians and industrial support of the Michigan trucking industry. The council hosts monthly meetings and events to share best practices.
