Micro-Budget Short Film From India Goes Global
Delhi, India, February 3, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Last year, a group of five film arts students from India got together to make a sci-fi short film using nothing but a mobile phone and a total production budget of 5,000 Indian rupees (100 USD).
Their film, Kaalchakra (The Circle of Time) is now blazing through the International Film Festival Circuit with seven official selections till date. The film has been selected as an official entry in The Barcelona Planet Film Festival, Noida International Film Festival, Navi Mumbai International Film Festival, Freedom Film Festival and Silver Dollar Film Festival, US.
"I'm happy to see the film being appreciated in film festivals worldwide. Kaalchakra is the result of months of hard work and unrelenting passion of my whole team and we hope to be able to share the film with as many cinema lovers worldwide as possible."
Kshtij Sharma, Writer/Director
The film is also the only Indian short film to be premiering at The New York State International Film Festival and one of the 2 Indian short films selected for the Feb edition of The Miami Independent Film Festival.
Written & Directed by Kshtij Sharma who makes his directorial debut with the film, Kaalchakra stars Rohit Pareek and Deeya Dey in pivotal roles. All three of them are an alumni of The Barry John Studio in New Delhi.
Kaalchakra tells the story of Professor Prabhakar Bakshi. Having consumed his entire adult life in trying to unravel the mysteries of time-travel, a dying Professor Bakshi, aided by his foster daughter Veena, makes a desperate final attempt to prove his theories by organizing a party for time travelers... to be held in the past.
Kaalchakra takes it's inspiration from an actual experiment carried out by Professor Stephen Hawking in 2009, when he threw a party for time-travelers which unsurprisingly, turned out to be a futile exercise.
The film premieres in India on the 7th of February at The Noida International Film Festival and will be available for public viewing over the internet later this year post the conclusion of it's film festival run.
