Microwave Networks Incorporated And SMEPA Expanding Mississippi Utility Infrastructure

Microwave Networks Incorporated and SMEPA expands Mississippi utility infrastructures with the deployment of Smart Grid services across entire state.

Microwave Networks Incorporated (MNI), a leading global supplier of next generation microwave communication systems, has been selected as a partner by South Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA) to provide an advanced communication infrastructure in support of its ongoing Smart Grid initiative.

Over the next several years, SMEPA will deploy Proteus microwave radios throughout the state of Mississippi in order to expand its existing infrastructure to reach outlying service areas. By leveraging MNI's native Gigabit Ethernet transmission products with MPLS technology, SMEPA is able to maintain existing TDM devices while moving to a newer IP-centric topology. The Proteus radios are highly advanced hybrid radios capable of transmitting any combination of DS1, DS3, and Gigabit Ethernet in its native format. Its reconfigurable software design and complete hardware redundancy makes it ideal for use in networks where both flexibility and reliability are required.

In addition to microwave radios, SMEPA is taking advantage of MNI's role as industry leader in turnkey solutions to provide factory integration, training, installation, supervision, and support services. MNI's dedicated integration area is being used to assemble, stage, wire, configure, and test the complete system including wireless bridges, point-to-multipoint radios, VoIP devices, stratum-1 timing sources, physical media converters, station alarm RTUs, and MPLS routers.

"We are proud to be selected again and we support SMEPA's always challenging demands of building and maintaining one of the industry's top communication systems. We are also excited to provide SMEAPA with MNI's full integration services and support to ensure successful deployment and complete satisfaction." says Aviad Gefen, MNI's President and CEO. "More and more network providers have recognized the value and confidence gained by using a single company like MNI with its unique expertise to successfully integrate their complete system prior to deployment in the field." Gefen concluded by saying, "We look forward to our continued relationship with SMEPA and are happy that they've chosen MNI as a trusted partner."
