Millennial Mom’s Spotlight on Female Entrepreneurs
Belly Bandit
Three sisters, Lori, Kari and Jodi Caden, founded Belly Bandit in 2008 after Lori had her first child and was struggling to regain her pre-baby body. That’s when she found out that women around the world have been wrapping their postpartum bellies for centuries so they created Belly Bandit’s postpartum wraps to modernize this ancient practice. These wraps provide medical grade compression to help slim and support the belly, waist and hips post-pregnancy. They’re safe, doctor-recommended and even eligible for insurance coverage. Now, 10 years later, Belly Bandit has expanded into its Mother Tucker line of tanks, leggings, shorts, corsets and much more.
It’s a 10 Haircare
It’s a 10 Haircare is one of the only female-owned, minority-operated professional hair care brands in the world. It was founded by hairstylist Carolyn Aronson. After 20 years as a stylist, Carolyn envisioned a line that worked for all hair types and delivered salon-quality results in just one bottle. She began with her star product, Miracle Leave-In, a 10-in-1 treatment and styling product. The line has now expanded to dozens of 10-in-1 products. The brand’s goal is to celebrate diversity and empower all people. They are also very philanthropic, supporting causes ranging from breast cancer awareness to their latest partnership with the children’s charity, Comfort Cases.
aden + anais
Raegan Moya-Jones founded aden + anais after scouring stores across the U.S. for the muslin wraps used by parents everywhere in Australia. This inspired Raegan to introduce the first muslin swaddle blanket to the U.S. in 2006. Since then, aden + anais has become a global lifestyle brand with tons of products like clothing, stroller blankets, bibs, crib sheets, skincare and more. Most recently they released a line of super soft disposable diapers and wipes.
Yoga Hustle
Yoga Hustle was started in Venice Beach by a former lawyer turned yogi and entrepreneur, Laleh Hejazi. The brand features fashionable, colorfully patterned yoga props like mats, towels, blocks, straps and blankets. What’s especially unique is Laleh created the first-ever, patented hands-free sling system that wears like a stylish backpack. It makes it easy and convenient to carry your own props to and from class. Throughout Laleh’s devout yoga practice, she saw an increase in bag hygiene at many group studios and gyms. She was always hunting for the cleanest props with little luck. They all seemed to be scrubbed down in a hurry or not at all. That’s why she created this line to make it easy to bring your own clean fitness gear to class.
Julie’s Real
Julie’s Real is a new Paleo snack brand offering 100 percent all-natural granolas and nut butters that are grain-free, soy-free and non-GMO. Julie Fox founded Julie’s Real after her husband was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus – a rare, pre-cancerous disease that makes it difficult to digest food. Both of them immediately omitted grains, dairy, processed food and refined sugar from their diets, essentially adopting a Paleo diet. After his diagnosis, Julie began experimenting in the kitchen with healthy, clean ingredients that resulted in delicious grain-free granolas and nut butters. Everyone in her community loved her snacks so much that she decided to make them available to the masses. Now, Julie’s Real is sold by over 150 retailers.
