Millions Available For Social Landlords To Make Homes Warmer - Knauf Insulation
Online, August 16, 2012 (Newswire.com) - As the government reopens its Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) social landlords competition, Knauf Insulation is highlighting the fact that sufficient levels of insulation must be in place before any claim will be approved.
The scheme has allocated millions of pounds to enable social landlords to get kit such as biomass boilers, solar hot water panels and heat pumps into social tenants' homes. Since it first opened in May this year, 72 projects have been awarded money and now social landlords who did not put in an application the first time round are being encouraged to get involved.
However, a key condition is that properties have a minimum of 250mm loft insulation and that cavity wall insulation must be installed where relevant and suitable.
Steve Smith market manager - residential at Knauf Insulation, commented: "We are pleased that this vital element has been factored into the competition requirements, as it ensures that any measures installed in the properties will be able to perform effectively. Taking a fabric first approach towards energy efficiency is absolutely essential - there is little point in fitting renewable energy sources within an inefficient building envelope, as the heat will simply escape. It's great to see that this important issue is being addressed within this scheme."
