Minneapolis Talent Management Experts Launch Career Development Firm

Minnesota families are investing heavily in their student’s pursuit of a marketable college degree. However, numerous studies reveal fewer than half of all recent college graduates are employed full time in professional jobs requiring a college degree. Twin Cities business executives turned partners, Audra Emerson and Sara Wegmann co-founded CareerPrep, a coaching, training, and professional development firm designed to help students graduate from college and into a career that reflects their academic abilities and personal values.

Since 2016, Emerson and Wegmann have been providing individual training to local students and collaborating with Minnesota colleges to create career development boot camps such as GWIL Scholars, a business career boot camp for female students at Gustavus Adolphus College.  CareerPrep also partners with local companies including Target and Deloitte to bring college students into the workplace to observe company culture, participate in presentations and refine the skills necessary to get hired in their field of dreams.

"Years of recruiting, interviewing, and developing young talent gives us an insider perspective on how to get hired," says Emerson. Adds Wegmann, "We know exactly what recruiters are looking for, how hiring decisions are made, the skills that matter, and the types of jobs available today."

With extensive recruiting and talent management experience working for Deloitte, Target, Ameriprise and Allianz, Emerson and Wegmann encountered too many new college graduates eager to enter the workforce but unable to navigate the job search or make informed career choices.

“Years of recruiting, interviewing, and developing young talent gives us an insider perspective on how to get hired,” says Emerson. Adds Wegmann, “We know exactly what recruiters are looking for, how hiring decisions are made, the skills that matter, and the types of jobs available today.”

Through their coaching and training, Emerson and Wegmann also have seen a rising number of graduating students leave campus not understanding of how to translate their skills and education to the workplace. Compounding the issue are the companies and hiring managers frustrated by Millennials and Generation Z, and their generational approach to work.

The CareerPrep coaching model is tailored to helping students, colleges and employers support new graduates by offering the following services:

·       Individual career exploration coaching, internship search, and job search support

·       Business career boot camps for college women and liberal arts majors

·       Student athlete career development workshops

·       Parent and student skill-based classes

·       Workplace training for Millennials and Generation Z
