Miriam D. Dufer, Author, Writer and Publishers Compiles History of Majorettes at Her Alma Mater

Writer will donate 1/2 book proceeds to Gordo High School Grenadier Marching Band, Gordo, Alabama.

Part of the long proud tradition of the Gordo Grenadier High School Band is the Majorette. Since I am a writer, I have decided to write a book on the history of the majorettes at our school and donate 1/2 of the proceeds to our fantastic band. Please be on the look out for more information in making this project happen.

The intent is to write a book on the history of our glorious majorettes of the past and present to capture all we have done. It will be a wonderful chronology of the artistry that has been part of the Gordo Grenadier Marching Band and a keepsake for us all. Each year, the band needs money and this will be one way to keep giving them money for years to come.

Miriam is the author of Confessions and Strange Impulses: A Book of Poetry in Two Acts (ISBN: 978-1-84728-354-2). Miriam Dufer's first book of poetry. Exploring the sacrament of penance and the dichotomy between raw emotion and reality, her poems illustrate the inner turmoil inherent in human nature.

Stage Left (ISBN: 978-0-6151-4796-3, a book of poetry. Divided into the 3 sections, Prelude, Interlude, and Coda, Stage Left is an amalgamation of rhythm, music, dance, and universal themes of race, coming of age, and philosophy.

The Image and Identity of the Black Woman in the Poetry and Prose of Toi Derricotte (ISBN: 9780542039089). The settling of America brought with it not only a new nation and the promise of freedom, but also a conglomeration of people with vast differences. One of the most volatile differences was skin color, which was the catalyst for discrimination, manipulative legislation, stereotypes, and identity politics. This thesis examines the identity politics in Derricotte's work and the proclivity to use stereotypes in America, by both blacks and whites. Quantitative analysis, in the form of an Internet-based survey, assesses perceptions and stereotypes of black women. The assessment reveals that conditioned negative thought remains today and, as suspected, is also held by blacks. Qualitative analysis, in the form of critical analysis of literature, examines Derricotte's work. The qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques are used collectively to validate my argument that the system of racial ascription in America compels individuals to declare arbitrary categories based on phenotypical attributes that define race inaccurately.
