Mission Encounters Helene Restores Partial Power

After the Christmas fire of 2010, Mission Encounters has installed a temporary power generator.

On Christmas Day 2010 there was a devastating fire that destroyed the generator house and two homes on the remote island of Helene. Mission Encounters staff was on a furlough to the states during the fire and returned to the property the last week of February. However for the last two weeks they have been without power and internet. Thanks to a portable generator and a satellite internet connection, partial power and internet services have been restored to the main property. Mission Encounters hopes to have the permanent generator they purchased installed within the week. The new generator includes a fire suppression system to prevent future accidents. Mission Encounters will also be installing a new desalinization plant. Mission Encounters provides the only drinkable water on the island, and the previous plant burned in the fire. The new plant will utilize less electricity and provide more water per minute.
