Moderno Trio Serves a Feast for Sound and Vision at The Linda
Online, September 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The Moderno Trio present 'Surreal Existence' on Sunday, September 18 at 6 PM at The Linda WAMC's Performing Arts Studio on 339 Central Ave., Albany, NY. Tickets are $10 online and at the door. This carnival tour of music, art film, modern dance and poetry stir the senses, giving a glimpse into the wild and crazy muse that is life. 'Surreal Existence' includes music written by the Moderno Trio and inspired by Danish composer, Morten Skovgaard Danielsen (RIP) who was something of a modern day Sid Barrett or Kurt Cobain. Drawing on their eclectic background, the members of Moderno Trio combine influences from Classic, Jazz, Punk, Rock, and Afro Latin into a surreal blend for your mind.
Moderno Trio is founded by the Basso Moderno Duo, Double bass soloist, Allan Von Schenkel and Concert Pianist, Kristen Williams. They are famed for their collaborations with creative artists such as Yoko Ono, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Ned Rorem. In all, they have commissioned over 150 new works from composers from all seven continents. Wanting to bring this traditional music to wider audiences, Allan Von Schenkel and Kristen Williams push the boundaries blending new sounds and unexpected genres to reach and energize audiences. Drummer, James Wesley Edwards' nuanced, adventurous and versatile style help realize the vision of the Moderno Trio.
Attending a Moderno Trio concert is a surreal voyage where you will experience music of complex beauty & rhythms, Animation & HD Graphics, and Modern Dance. There is something of a carnival like experience at a Moderno Trio concert. They are joined by Modern Dance Choreographer Jennifer Lippens who will present a new solo dance piece.
Basso Moderno Duo
Dr. Allan Von Schenkel & Kristen Williams formed the Basso Moderno Duo in 2006 to change history, create art and enjoy a life in music. Since forming they have performed in Europe, Eastern Europe, and throughout the US giving over 400 recitals.
BMD's mission is to promote the works of living composers from all over the world by educating nontraditional audiences about contemporary music. Together, they have commissioned over 150 new works from celebrated composers in 50 countries and all 7 continents, started a festival, several concert series and created the Basically Modern Arts Sanctuary.
James Wesley Edwards
James has been a part of the Tri-City music scene for quite some time, and has performed with several local bands, including jazz group Out of the Box, Latin Funk band Las Manos, and the rock group Radio Judas.
James says of himself: "I listened to Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, and Billy Cobham at that time. I was inspired by their ferocity, and fearlessness and I borrowed as many grooves, ideas and techniques from my heroes as I could handle, then molded them into my brain, hands and feet, so I could make my drum sound feel good." In the summer of 2003, James had the opportunity to study drum-set technique with Will Calhoun of the band 'Living Clour' and author/teacher extraordinaire, Jim Chapin. An experience he will never forget.
Forget about what you may have been expecting from an ambient, alternative group - come on, you know, all hypnotic and layered, droning bass. Moderno Trio can groove & swing too!
