Moms Foundation Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Moms 2 Moms 58 Presents the "Celebration of Life Weekend" for Breast Cancer Awareness. Weekend end to feature Race for the Cure, Spa Day and Celebrate and Praise Sunday

Moms 2 Moms 58, the foundation established in memory of the late Pro Football Hall of Fame player Derrick Thomas, will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the Celebration of Life Weekend Oct. 17 and 18.

According to Breastcancer.org, over 250,000 cases of invasive and non-invasive breast cancer was diagnosis 2008. And, surprisingly to some, there are nearly 1,700 cases of male breast cancer discovered each year. Despite a near 20-year decline in new breast cancer diagnosis, this year, some 40,000 people in America will lose their life to this disease. The drop in mortality has been attributed to an increase in education and awareness of breast cancer detection.

Through the help of Moms 2 Moms 58 generous sponsor Edison Learning, the foundation will devote the Celebration of Life Weekend to bringing awareness to the need for early detection and treatment of breast cancer. The Celebration will present a series of events that will highlight education of breast cancer, awareness, honor the lives lost and celebrate the survivors of the disease.

The Celebration of Life Weekend begins Sat., Oct. 17, with a Moms 2 Moms 58 Race Team participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Bayfront Park in Miami. Race registration begins at 6:00 a.m. The Moms Race Team is still accepting members and anyone interested in getting on Moms' Team can register by logging on to Moms website.

Immediately following the race, Moms 2 Moms 58 will welcome a group of breast cancer survivors for a free Spa Day of pampering. The Survivors Spa Day will be hosted at the Marriott Biscayne Bay with an afternoon of massages, facials, makeovers and more by a team of volunteers. A highlight of Spa Day will be the Survivors Swag Bag filled with wonderful gifts provided by Moms 2 Moms 58's generous partners Carol's Daughter, MyAzula, Derrickhayes.com, Motherhood to Otherhood, Sable Foods, Hailey's Dragonfly Garden, Therapeutic Touch Miami, DentaBurst, Pink-Link, OurHandmadeGifts.com, Shop7.com and Marriott Biscayne. Spa Day is open to the public for a nominal fee by signing up on the Moms website. Spa Day will also feature the Survivors Fashion Show by designs by local fashion designers.

The Celebration of Life Weekend will conclude with Celebrate and Praise Sunday at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church Of Miami. Celebrate and Praise will feature a 10:00 a.m. service celebrating the lives of those who have survived breast cancer and remembering those lost. Mount Calvary Baptist is located at 1140 NW 62nd Street Miami.
