Money Donated to Forensics Program

Online, December 13, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Hollywood might make computer forensics and detectiveagencies seem glamorous, but in reality, those fields require a tremendous amount of education and dedication. Educational institutions specializing in forensics need to stay on the cutting edge of new developments in the field. They owe it to their students to provide the best possible forensic education available.
On November 30th, the College of Western Idaho was recognized as one of these exceptional institutions.
This past Wednesday, Don Bowers, program head of the College of Western Idaho's Information Security and Computer Forensics program, was invited to a local ACFE chapter meeting, expecting nothing more than an opportunity to socialize with the area's top anti-fraud professionals. To his complete surprise, he left with an oversized check written out to his program.
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is the world's largest anti-fraud organization. They have chapters in many cities across the globe, including Boise, and serve as both a certification body and a powerful social network among anti-fraud professionals.
"I'm usually never at a loss for words," said Mr. Bowers, "but I was totally speechless."
The donation was organized by the Boise chapter of ACFE and first proposed by Neal Custer, past president for the local ACFE chapter and a current board member Mr. Custer is also chairman of the technical advisory committee for CWI's Information Security and Forensic program.
"Don's program is one of the best of its kind," Mr. Custer said in an interview. "It's important to stay on top of the latest developments in forensic technology, and I know Don wants to start moving into mobile device forensics. We want to recognize his accomplishments thus far, and we hope this donation can help with his future goals."
Mr. Custer's company, Reveal Digital Forensics and Security (a subsidiary of Custer Agency), provides computer and cell phone forensics services for law firms, businesses, government agencies and private individuals.
Also pictured presenting the donation is Denise McClure, the current Boise ACFE president and owner of Averti Fraud Solutions. She is both a CPA and CFE, and her company specializes in detecting and investigating financial fraud.
