Morning Center Announces Locations Of Mobile Maternity Units
The Morning Center announces it has chosen three cities for its first mobile maternity units: Indianapolis, Memphis, and Charlotte, N.C.
Online, November 9, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Samaritan Ministries and the Morning Center have announced that their first three mobile maternity care units will be in Indianapolis, Indiana; Memphis, Tennessee; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
They plan to have a mobile unit operational in each of the three cities by December 2012.
Morning Center mobile care units will be fashioned after the model of a bloodmobile. Each mobile care unit will be fully equipped with highly trained medical professionals and state of the art technology which will be used to provide pre-natal care for women in underserved areas. The Morning Center plans to partner with local churches and like-minded organizations to schedule appointments for the mobile care units. The Morning Center says that will accomplish two goals for the price of one: serving the maternity needs of women and simultaneously connecting them with the support structure that they'll need before and after their baby's arrival.
Morning Center director James Lansberry says that mobile care units will allow the ministry to begin serving the needs of pregnant women much more quickly.
"Mobile units will be a fraction of the cost of maternity hospitals," he says. "They will enable us to treat the whole woman and catch any potential complications early on in her pregnancy. This is a important project that will need backing from concerned Americans wanting to help our nation's poor."
The two primary criteria determining the choice of these cities were need in the community and local support.
The selected cities represent some of the nation's neediest. They have high unemployment rates, high infant mortality rates (Memphis has the highest rate in the nation), high numbers of people under poverty level, and many who are medically underserved. All of these factors played a part in the choice of these cities.
Along with the announcement of these mobile units, the Morning Center is kicking off a capital campaign to raise the funds for these mobile units. The Morning Center only accepts private donations.
