Morodo Helps To Bridge The Digital Divide In China
Online, January 17, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Morodo helps reduce "Digital Divide" by donating a number of high end computers to the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), which provides relief support in many regions of China to under privileged children.
A recent ruling by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has declared that VoIP services are illegal, except for the ones operated by state-owned telecom operators China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.
China is one of the largest developing countries in the world, with the biggest Internet users in the world, however most outside the major cities still struggle to afford computers and access to the internet. At the end of the 2010, the number of Internet users stood at more than 420 million. With a population of more than 1.3 billion people, 31% of the population had access to the Internet , the majority within city limits. The Red Cross Society of China delivers help to communities outside of the major cities and towns of China.
VoIP services remain illegal in China for Morodo to supply. VoIP calling services like MO-Call, allow users to make free or cheap international calls for much less than traditional telephone or mobile providers. "Morodo's donation to the RCSC will not only help underprivileged kids to access basic computer services such as the Internet and E-mail, we also hope in a couple years time the Chinese Government levels the playing field to allow companies like Morodo to participate in the Chinese market" stated Andrew Reid, Morodo's CEO.
