Most Honda Models Now Feature Backup Cameras
Online, July 24, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Valley Honda is pleased to announce that beginning in 2013, most Honda models will feature a standard backup camera. 2013 models that will definitely include this camera are the redesigned Honda Accord, Crosstour, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline and CR-Z.
Today, only two of Honda's 12-model lineup has this standard backup camera: the 2013 Honda CR-V and 2013 Honda Fit EV. Beginning in 2013, nine models will feature this intelligent, helpful little camera. In the past, backup cameras were typically an option that had to be coupled with expensive navigation systems. Honda currently offers a backup camera on more of its lineup then any other mainstream automaker.
It is a possibility that all passenger vehicles must include backup cameras by 2014. This motivated Honda to get on board early. "We've definitely known about the possibility of legislation down the pike," explained Honda spokesman Chris Martin, "but we didn't have to start this early." Martin believes the more immediate considerations for the cameras were based on financial ability and design.
Honda strives to make all new vehicles optimize design and forward visibility. Their next step is to make rear visibility a key feature, so backup cameras was the best bet. Since screens are already integrated into the console design, this addition of a backup camera was not too much more of an expense.
The only vehicles not getting backup cameras in 2013 are Honda's smaller vehicles such as the Insight, Fit and Civic. The Insight does not currently have a navigation system, so it would be pricy for someone to choose a backup camera option. The Honda Fit and Civic also do not have backup camera options, although they are both getting interior makeovers in the 2013 model year which could bring a camera feature.
