Online, March 11, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Castlegar BC - Motivational Speaker, Best-selling Author and former drug addict Joe Roberts uplifted the business leaders and members of the Districts Chamber of Commerce last weekend with his inspirational "Skid Row CEO" presentation. The Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala was held on March 6th, 2010 at the Fireside Inn in Castlegar BC. The purpose of the evening was to recognize the achievements and accomplishments of Castlegar's businesses. Roberts' presentation "Skid Row CEO" highlighted his unique "rags to riches" personal life story, and encouraged the crowd to overcome adversity and taught business leaders how to use adversity as a tool for success.
"He was addicted to drugs and alcohol - you name it, he was on it." said Chamber of Commerce executive director Pam McLeod in an interview with Castlegar News. "He was eating out of dumpsters down in Vancouver, sleeping on the streets. He was on the path to probably death. He just decided to make a change and come clean and he's done a tremendous job."
Roberts also highlighted many key moments in his life from his extensive childhood drug addiction to his successful comeback as President and CEO of Mindware Design Communications.
"He's CEO of his own computer technology company. He's done very well. He's married with children now, a very successful man. He has started up a foundation now and he targets specifically the area of drug and alcohol addiction," said McLeod.
His message proved to the audience that anyone anywhere can overcome perceived limitations and achieve their dream. "There's more to you than you can see,'" Roberts says.
Roberts has also founded the Shoeboogieman Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing teen addiction through education, motivation and inspiration. While in Castlegar, Joe Roberts generously donated his time to speak to local youth at the Trail and Castlegar High Schools about the dangers of drug addiction and about the "lies about getting high."
