Mumbai
It was a day for those brave at heart....or at least those who had proved beyond doubt that a heart attack could not stop them from leading a perfectly normal life.
The auditorium was full of senior citizens. As the young guys aged 60 plus clapped, whistled and cheered on their friends; MP Rajeev Shukla flew down from Delhi to Mumbai to give away whats now called 'the braveheart awards' ; a recognition given to those people; who despite a cardiac arrest have regained their lives through exercise and a fitness regimen to get back to an active life; and even participate in the marathon.
Dr.Aashish Contractor, the architect of all these success stories of gritty recovery; spoke of the need for people to be aware a cardiac arrest could just be a 'new beginning' to life and not an end. Dr.Ramakanata Panda, now acknowledged as ' a miraculous life saver' all over the world; joined the function briefly to encourage his team.
Awards were given in nine categories; such as reversal of heart disease, superwoman, superman, positive attitude, warrior, young at heart etc; Among those who contested for the awards were Ambani family member Rajni Meswani, Indias oldest and most respected hotelier Ajit Kerkar and of course by All in all, a fun filled event at Asian heart.
