MRIGlobal and ForgeFX Simulations Develop Cutting-Edge Simulator That Prepares Warfighters for Real-World Scenarios
SAN FRANCISCO, October 6, 2020 (Newswire.com) - For years, the military has relied on Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicles (NBCRV) to visualize and navigate battlefield threats like dangerous chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons at close range. Unmanned ground vehicles can be remotely operated to conduct sampling, provide valuable situational awareness for the soldier, and increase combat power. While traditional training methods (like lectures and demonstrations) on these sophisticated, multi-million dollar vehicles are tried and true, simulator-based instruction can accelerate and enhance comprehension. Trainees receive hands-on experience with virtual equipment and environments before they ever touch the real-world machines.
MRIGlobal Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance software engineers are experienced in working with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) to develop an acclaimed sensor suite upgrade that integrates CBRN sensors onto reconnaissance vehicles. Building on that expertise, MRIGlobal, in partnership with ForgeFX Simulations, designed a cutting-edge modern simulator for training use on a full suite of manned and unmanned ground vehicles and the sensors they contain.
With a mouse, gamepad controller, and video technology on a portable computer tablet, the soldier can learn to drive and operate the reconnaissance vehicle in a variety of simulated scenarios. Training involves state-of-the-art game development tools and techniques, including on-screen instructions to reinforce education to increase familiarity with the equipment and develop muscle memory to improve response time and accuracy; structured tutorials to ensure consistency in training; virtual 3D equipment to duplicate real-world audio cues and realistic environments; and game-design strategies using feedback and rewards to motivate the trainee to achieve the highest possible results.
