Museum Of London Launches Ground-breaking 3D Online Resources

The Museum of London have just launched a new set of 3D online learning resources. Museum exhibits were scanned on-site by Creative Dimension Software Ltd to build visually stunning detailed 3D models and published to the web for interactive viewing

The Museum of London have just launched a new set of 3D online learning resources as part of their programme for students with "special educational needs". Initially eight 3D museum artefacts have been made available on the site. All the objects were scanned on-site by Creative Dimension Software Ltd using their 3DSOM technology to build photo-realistic 3D models. The 3D content is published in a unique Flash 3D interactive format that allows any user with a Flash-enabled web browser to view the 3D models, spin the objects and zoom-in from any viewpoint to see the intricate details of this fascinating array of cultural artefacts.

"We wanted to make sure that the students could get a really close look at these objects online so we added a new Full-Screen button to our Flash powered 3D viewer" explains Adam Baumberg, Director of Creative Dimension Software Ltd. The project was managed by Rhiannon Looseley, ELearning Officer and Jessica Rosenfeld, SEN Officer at the museum.

The pages are linked direct from the main museum website and can be easily found using the following link:

As well as the 3D version there is explanatory text and a keyword signing video with related image for each artefact and an illustrated interactive story with animations is also included as part of the available online resources.
