MVT Solutions Announces InRange Technologies Test Results
Testing shows InRange Trailer Skirts deliver significant fuel savings
LAS CRUCES, N.M., February 2, 2021 (Newswire.com) - Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions (MVTS), a company that provides breakthrough fuel economy testing and design and development services for the trucking industry, recently completed testing for InRange Technologies on its 24-ft standard and 40-ft extended trailer skirts. The testing data determined that InRange skirts provide significant fuel savings on trucks and trailers over multiple configurations.
MVTS Certified test results found that the InRange standard 24-ft length trailer skirt, saved 8.72 gal/1000 miles (7.03%). Similarly, the InRange extended length 40-ft skirt, saved 11.12 gal/1000 miles (8.96%).
"Testing showed significant fuel savings with the InRange skirts," said Daryl Bear, lead engineer and COO for MVTS. "The results may be surprising to some, however, this skirt design covers a lot of surface area, and as a result, saves a lot of fuel."
Testing was done using two 2016 International ProStars with Cummins X15 15-liter engines, Eaton 10-speed manual transmissions, and 53' Hyundai dry van trailers. The two vehicles ran simultaneously at 65 mph, one-minute apart to avoid aerodynamic influence on either vehicle, along a 9-mile circle track near Pecos, Texas. During the test, the comparison vehicle remained the same while the test vehicle had modifications made throughout the testing process.
"The MVTS-certified test results demonstrate that our InRange Trailer Skirts truly are next-generation," said Tim Brereton, president and CEO for InRange Technologies. "Our trailer skirts deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than the industry-typical skirt while at the same time offering revenue opportunities for fleets through our mobile advertising program."
Unlike traditional testing methods typically used in the trucking industry, MVTS utilizes a more advanced and precise way to perform on-road and track testing. Every vehicle is equipped with sensors and data recording systems that allow data collection on fuel consumption, aerodynamics, rolling resistance, driver behavior and other variables affecting fuel consumption. The test results can be adapted to daily operations and long-term savings in the real world.
