My Addicted Child: Co-Dependency, Enabling and the Road to Recovery Finally
San Francisco, California, September 21, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Addiction is a baffling disease. We are only beginning to understand this brain disease and the complex and comprehensive treatment needed to arrest and rehabilitate the addict, the family members, and the family as a whole that are impacted by it.
We must accept the reality that we cannot, under any circumstances, change the addict. Only the addict has the power to change him or herself. When we accept this basic truth, we are in a position to make the hard decisions that will create a new reality for ourselves and for the addict: a reality where sobriety and recovery become possible.
Larry Fritzlan is a passionate advocate for individuals and families, offering hope to those suffering from the disease of addiction.
Brad Reedy, Ph.D., Co-Owner of Evoke Therapy Programs and Author of The Journey of the Heroic Parent
Only when you accept that you are powerless over the addict, and you focus on your own recovery, can the fundamental changes begin that can lead to a healthy outcome for you and your family. We believe this evidence-based, family-systems approach will someday become the norm in treating addiction.
This book and the stories in it offer addicts and their families a way onto the well-worn path toward recovery. On this path, addicted families can begin to build healthy, heart-centered relationships and joyful lives of long-term sobriety and serenity.
“Larry Fritzlan and Avis Rumney have written an important book which makes a powerful case for parent involvement in addiction treatment. It will be helpful to countless families. Bravo!” — Stephanie Brown, Ph.D., Co-author, The Alcoholic Family in Recovery
