N.H. Woman Starts Organic, Animal Testing-Free Cosmetic Enterprise
Online, May 2, 2011 (Newswire.com) - A New Hampshire woman has launched an organic cosmetics business, Gone Raw NYC, LLC, which is aimed at women who want to remain stylish without using makeup containing toxic ingredients.
Caroline Arend, founder and president of Gone Raw NYC, was motivated to start the business after noticing that one of her daughters was using cosmetics packed with carcinogens. Women shouldn't have to compromise their skin's health just to look good, she said.
"Why would you take your body's largest organ and smother it with toxins?" Arend, a mother of four, asked.
Arend began conceptualizing the business about two years ago, but officially launched her online virtual store - located at http://www.gonerawnyc.com - late last year. The store features cosmetics in a wide variety of colors made by Arend as well as beauty products from third parties that are organic and free of animal testing. All third-party products are researched and tested before making it to the e-store.
Arend chose to put the word "raw" in the business name because it represents essential and natural elements. She believes that everyone should have access to beauty products that are safe to use and produced via environmentally friendly means.
"I wanted it to have a hip, cool feeling to it," said Arend, who grew up in New York City and studied business at Boston University before moving to New Hampshire.
Products available at GoneRawNYC.com include pure mineral foundations, bronzers, blush, skin care products, organic shampoos and conditioners, mascara, lip gloss, lipstick, hand lotions, hand soap, nail polish and remover and bamboo moisture gloves, among other things. Arend is working on broadening her products' color variations and plans to release new products soon.
