National Billing Center Announces Addition of Evaluation & Management Tools to Its Coding Automation Software
Pittsburgh, PA, February 9, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The National Billing Center, a provider of clinical documentation and reimbursement software and services, today announced its upcoming release of EM-CAT, an expansion of its Coding Automation Toolset (CAT). The combined pay-as-you-go suite employs proprietary Natural Language Processing techniques to dramatically reduce organizational effort currently devoted to documenting and converting patient records into claims.
“Our transcription customers asked us if we could look at other bottlenecks in their workflow beyond voice or text input. Once we realized how often clinicians downplay their levels of care, we focused on designing a transparent, detailed government-compliant audit trail that matches reimbursement up 1:1 with each patient encounter record,” said Armen Geronian, NBC’s CEO. “The E&M side of CAT analyzes the patient encounter text, extracts the care levels and weights for every variable, then calculates what the Medicare reimbursement will be in real time.”

CAT synchronously translates unstructured clinical documentation, either from electronic medical record (EMR) or pre-EMR formats into standard procedure codes. Its new E&M module then applies code modifiers and provides a dashboard read-out of care levels, pointing to possible gaps in documentation or opportunities for upgrading care procedures. NBC’s automation suite also gives both clinicians and coders simple power tools to compress per-patient reimbursement analysis time. Discharge documents comprising hundreds of pages can be processed in seconds, then reviewed and confirmed by human experts. Every provider interaction, edit, or correction feeds back into the organizational record and sharpens ongoing accuracy.
Synchronous coding improves evaluation and management acceptance, speeds billing cycle time, and heightens quality of care and ease of case management. CAT allows maximal term-free flexibility for seamless installation, workflow integration, and clinician configuration, including optional cloud-based services.
