National Council on Educating Black Children (NCEBC) Celebrates 25 Years of Progress

Online, March 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The 2011 conference of the National Council on Educating Black Children (NCEBC) is April 28-30th in Las Vegas, Nevada in continued support of the Clark County School District. Dr. Claude A. Mayberry, Jr. (NCEBC Board President) has welcomed Superintendents and Policy Stakeholders from across the country to join NCEBC in conversation and strategy development with some of the nation's most noted educational researchers and successful practitioners.

Keynote presentations from Mrs. Marian Wright Edelman (Children's Defense Fund), Dr. John H. Jackson (Schott Foundation), Mr. George McKenna (Los Angeles Unified School District) and Mr. Mychal Wynn (NCEBC Board Member and Motivational Speaker) will inform and motivate participants and follow-up workshops will allow attendees access to special topic discussion and learning groups that will empower them with tools to implement successful strategies upon return to their districts.

NCEBC will also gather a panel of distinguished scholars and practitioners with records and insights of success with transforming educational outcomes for African American youth for a Town Hall Meeting moderated by Dr. Ivory Toldson of Howard University. Additionally, Dr. Deborah Jewell-Sherman (Harvard University and former superintendent of Richmond Public Schools) will share her findings and commentary on the educational research of Dr. Asa G. Hilliard.

The data on graduation rates of African American males, the agenda as expressed by the Obama-Biden administration (and its opposition) compounded by the increasing use of social media to mobilize grassroots community awareness and action, has resurrected energy and focus toward educational policy.
