"Key Concepts in Understanding Concussions" course held for Athletic Trainers to gain a better understanding on baseline concussion testing and return to play decisions.

To promote athlete safety, National Dizzy & Balance Center and it's medical providers have put together a course for Athletic Trainers on "Key Concepts in Understanding concussions." This will be a one part course offered two seperate days for all Athletic Trainers in the Minnesota and outreach areas. Three (3) Continuing Education Credits will be given to all Athletic Trainers present at the course. Key concepts in this course include: Understanding/Diagnosing a concussion, vestibular diagnostic testing within concussions and making return to play decisions on a Medical Doctor and Athletic Trainer side.

According to the University of Pittsburgh's Brain Trauma Research Center, more than 300,000 sports-related concussions occur annually in the United States, and the likelihood of suffering a concussion while playing a contact sport is estimated to be as high as 19 percent per year of play. More than 62,000 concussions are sustained each year in high school contact sports, and among college football players, 34 percent have had one concussion and 20 percent have endured multiple concussions. Concussions often cause significant and sustained neuropsychological impairments in information-processing speed, problem solving, planning, and memory, and these impairments are worse with multiple concussions.

National Dizzy and Balance Center (NDBC) is a unique outpatient clinic system. We combine Physicians, Audiologists, and Physical Therapists all within the same facility to offer a true multidisciplinary approach to dizziness, balance disorders, and concussions.
