National Leaders Bring ¡Todos A Votar (Let's Vote!) Campaign To Texas

Online, September 11, 2012 (Newswire.com) - In response to the Federal Court rulings which found that Texas conservatives violated civil rights laws in an attempt to dilute Latino congressional representation and prevent minorities and the poor from voting, national Hispanic leaders will hold a briefing in Houston, Texas to address the critical role of Latinos in the November election and call on the Hispanic community to vote.

Recently, a Federal Court found Texas' redistricting maps were drawn with "discriminatory purpose," after the 2010 U.S. Census showed that Texas had seen a surge in the growth of the Hispanic population. In a separate decision, a Federal Court found that the Voter ID law would have placed an unburden on low-income and a largely minority population's ability to vote, and thus, invalidated that law.

Not surprisingly, Latino voters are expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming 2012 elections, with a record 12 million expected to vote in November. Hosted by LULAC, Latino voter advocacy leaders will be present at the briefing to address the recent court rulings; discuss how Texas is poised to be a political game changer; and provide an update on the progress of voter registration and public education campaigns taking place across the country.*
