National Parathyroid Education Foundation Announces Board of Directors
Online, July 13, 2010 (Newswire.com) - TAMPA - July 13, 2010 - National Parathyroid Education Foundation announces its new Board of Directors. The National Parathyroid Education Foundation is dedicated to educating both physicians and patients on symptoms, early diagnosis, and cure of hyperparathyroidism. The board members are:
Mark Latham is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. As CEO and Chairman, Latham will bring passionate and motivated patients from around the world together to give them a strong unified voice and platform to educate both doctors and other patients about the dangers of high blood calcium. The scope of Latham's work includes overseeing all aspects of the Foundation, including fundraising, educational campaigns, and organization of both the volunteer and Foundation staff to achieve the mission of the Foundation.
James Norman, MD, FACS, FACE, is Treasurer and Secretary of the Organization as well as a member of the organization's Board of Directors. Dr. Norman is recognized worldwide as a leader in the field of parathyroid disease. Dr. Norman has devoted his entire career to the treatment of parathyroid tumors and blood calcium issues and was a principle pioneer and driving force in the field of minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. He is credited with dramatically changing the way parathyroid surgery is conducted and to a large degree, the way in which hyperparathyroidism is diagnosed, managed, and cured.
Michael J. Edwards, MD, FACS, is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and Surgeon-In-Chief, for the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Edwards has served numerous committees and boards for national surgical societies and is a former president of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is highly published and has served on several editorial boards of surgical and oncology journals, including the Annals of Surgical Oncology, the American Journal of Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. Edwards's primary duties and responsibilities are to publicly represent the charity, provide governance, and assist committees in fundraising, event management and program implementation.
The board members were selected because of their expertise in healthcare education, parathyroid disease, non-profits, and social media. The expertise in their fields will help jumpstart the mission of the foundation in its educational goals.
