National Parathyroid Education Foundation Launches Website For Parathyroid Disease Education

The newly formed National Parathyroid Education Foundation has launched its new website to help provide earlier diagnosis and cure of parathyroid disease by increasing awareness of the dangers and symptoms of high blood calcium.

The Foundation's website, www.ParathyroidFoundation.org, was designed in direct response to patient and doctor research into how people want to learn about lesser known diseases, symptoms, and cures. Studies show that more than 80% of patients are using the internet to educate themselves on their symptoms, possible diseases, and solutions before visiting their doctors. Similar studies show an increasing percentage of doctors using the internet for researching less common diseases as well.

Foundation CEO Mark Latham says "Many of our readers tell us they had to research their symptoms themselves after suffering for a number of years with classic symptoms of a parathyroid tumor." Latham continues, "These patients then refer themselves to doctors and bring their educational packets of information, labs, and charts with them to show they have this very curable, but often overlooked disease."

Dr. James Norman MD, FACS, FACE, of the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa Florida, says "parathyroid disease is an uncommon disease and not everyone can distinguish the symptoms from far more common diseases such as osteoporosis, kidney disease and others. Because of this, many people are experiencing learning gaps that keep them from living healthier, happier lives. We started the National Parathyroid Education Foundation on the premise of providing educational resources about parathyroid disease and hyperparathyroidism. It is the Foundation's goal to provide easy access to the latest and most accurate information so each person can make the best decision for their personal health needs."

The most frequented resources on ParathyroidFoundation.org are: the "10 rules of hyperparathyroidism" ( http://parathyroidfoundation.org/parathyroid-disease ), The latest report on hyperparathyroidism from NYU's Doctor Radio ( http://parathyroidfoundation.org/parathyroid-foundation-resources ), and the Parathyroid Disease Awareness group( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tampa-FL/Parathyroid-Disease-Awareness-Group/311431444305?ref=mf ), a Facebook blog that has become a fantastic success. Latham says "if you are an adult and your blood calcium is high then you should start educating yourself so you can have a meaningful conversation with your doctor about the possibility of hyperparathyroidism. If you have hyperparathyroidism, there is every reason in the world to have surgery to cure your parathyroid disease so you can go back to living a great life!"

National Parathyroid Education Foundation is committed to using all available resources to educate as many people as quickly as possible and is adding new resources weekly to help keep people aware of the latest information on hyperparathyroidism.
