National Record Store Day This Saturday- Indies Unite at South Fla Movies, Music and More will Celebrate with The Republik‏

Indie Record Stores Unite for National Record Store Day on Saturday, April 17th to promote their businesses and indie bands. Music, Movies, and More in West Palm will celebrate with "The Republik" performance from 10am-12:30pm in West Palm Beach.

The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown, and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

"I have had telephone calls from Tallahhasse north to the Keys south about the merchandise that is being released that day. The Record
Company's from Sony, WB etc and Music Stars from John Lennon, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews and up to todays newer artists are putting out
very limited edition CD's, LP's, and 45's that will NOT be released to any stores EXCEPT independent/private ones, plus they are going to be
limited to 1000 copies countrywide", says Debbie Ross owner of Music, Movies and More at 2640 Forest Hill Boulevard in West Palm Beach.

"Independent Music/Movie" stores are a dying breed, just like the independent hardware, pharmacy and any other independent businesses", she adds.

NOTE:
A Record Store Day participating store is defined as a physical retailer whose product line consists of at least 50% music retail, whose company is not publicly traded and whose ownership is at least 70% located in the state of operation. (In other words, we're dealing with real, live, physical, indie record stores-not online retailers or corporate behemoths).

About The Republik

From Hollywood, Florida, The Republik, is rapidly setting up bookings as the grassroots following continues to grow. The Republik, known for its focus on polarized ideologies of America, represents a new age of politically based, alternative music. Inspired by a vast range of music from Dave Matthews Band and Rage Against the Machine to Tool and Primus, the band brings a lot to the table with diversity and unconventional lyrics and tunes highlighting trials and tribulations in modern America.
The Republik recorded its full length CD "The Unexpected Answer" released March 26th 2010 with well respected, award winning producer Mark Loren from 42nd Street Studios located at 548 N.E. 42nd Street Ft. Lauderdale 33334

It was in 2006 when long-time friends and band members Colin Healy (singer-songwriter) and Jacob Bauman(bass player) decided they would officially launch the band The Republik. Inspired by music ranging from the Beatles, Dave Matthews Band to Rage Against The Machine and everything in between, The Republik brings a lot to the table as far as diversity is concerned. The band's first album "Last Chance Planet," released in 2007, shows the talents of bassist, Jacob Bauman, age 17, (then 14) and singer-songwriter/guitarist, Colin Healy, 19 (then 16). In 2007 the band changed it's line-up, bringing in two new members since the release of "Last Chance Planet." Healy has taken a back seat role on the guitar to make way for new lead guitarist, Alberto Pizarro, age 21. Then in 2008 the band incorporated a new drummer, Beau Million, age 19. Now with the current line up, The Republik has just released an album called "The Unexpected Answer." on March 27th 2010. Despite their age, they have been the house band at bars and restaurants in the Hollywood Beach Fl. and Dania Beach Fl. The band played several American Cancer Society: Relay For Life events, and recently shared a stage with Grammy winners Los Lonely Boys at The Delray Beach's Garlic Festival 2009.
In December 2009 The Republik played for The Miami Music Festival, the venue's were at

GORDON BIERSCH, MEKKA DISCOTEKKA SHOWCASE STAGE and FINNEGANS RIVER.

In February 2010 The Republik performed at The Legendary Tobacco Road, Miami's Mecca for Live Music presents the most brilliant new Stars and Local Legends .
