Navy Veteran PJ Walsh To Premiere One-Man Comedy Show, Over There, at New York International Fringe Festival
Online, July 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - NEW YORK - From a blue-collar upbringing to the big city, it's been quite a ride for comedian PJ Walsh. The navy veteran is premiering his one-man comedy show, "Over There," at this year's New York International Fringe Festival. "Over There" illustrates the hardship and hilarity of Walsh's journey - from a screw-up kid convinced there's no chance of war that enlists in 1990 to a stint in President Clinton's administration, a career in stand-up, and facing his mortality in the belly of a C-130 flying over Afghanistan.
"As a veteran, I've never forgotten the sacrifices made daily by the men and women of our military," said Walsh. "That's the reason I've performed at Armed Forces facilities across the globe and signed up for 'Comics on Duty' in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Walsh's observational comedy echoes with audiences at home and abroad thanks to his quick wit, incredible energy, and entertaining insight on the military, family and American life. Walsh's relatable story brings viewers through his struggles to escape his hometown, survive basic training and six months on a ship during the Gulf War, work in the White House and Camp David, and eventually step into a comedy career that has found him performing alongside Larry Cable the Guy and hosting his own radio show.
"My favorite part of the show is sharing my experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan," explained Walsh. "It allows me to display the insights of seeing the Middle East again in my 30s instead of an 18-year-old enlisted man."
"Over There" is a poignant narrative that intertwines the solemnity of war with the hilarity of Walsh's inner thoughts. The show is a 60 Miles North Production in association with The Relevance Group and will delight audiences of all ages.
