Nebraska Company Hopes to Improve Medicaid Patient Outcomes in Rural Texas
Omaha, NE, July 2, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Omaha, Nebraska based, MyVitalz has partnered with Falls Community Hospital and Clinics in Marlin, Texas to provide a platform to monitor Texas Medicaid patients with multiple chronic diseases such as: congestive heart failure, COPD, diabetes, hypertension and asthma, from their own homes.
MyVitalz president, Justus Decher, said MyVitalz has proprietary software that connects Bluetooth Medical devices such as: blood pressure monitors, scales, pulse oximeters, glucometers, spirometers and others to a cloud based system that collects and posts patient biometric data in near real time. Care team members can then view trending data through graphs, and reports and help patients manage their diseases better. In addition to the HIPAA compliant monitoring platform, MyVitalz has an embedded Video Conferencing portal that allows patients to communicate from home via video conference with their doctor or nurse.
Patients of Falls Community will benefit by reducing travel time and expense driving back and forth to the clinic, and have the security of knowing they are being monitored at all times. Patients will take their own readings once a day and a nurse at the clinic will analyze the results through the MyVitalz portal. Out of range readings will trigger alerts and the nurse can decide what course of action is needed to help improve the patient’s outcome.
Falls Community Chief Administrative officer Willis Reese said that his hospital and clinics will create efficiencies through scalability that will allow them to monitor more patients with fewer staff members. The program should also help reduce: length of stay, readmission rates, emergency room visits, and outgoing nursing visits all while improving patient outcomes.
Chief Operating Officer Jeff Banghart said that most hospitals, clinics and home health agencies need technology like MyVitalz to help keep the patients in their homes. “With health care costs soaring to record heights, the concept of the medical home is becoming much more appealing to most Providers. We specialize in risk-based payment models where capitation has become more prevalent under the Affordable Care Act. By being proactive and investing a little capital with MyVitalz, our customers can see huge savings by heading off medical disasters before they happen.“
