Neil Patrick Harris Marries Lifelong Partner David Burtka In Italy
On Sept. 6, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka finally made their relationship official after a 9 year engagement and two kids.
Las Vegas, NV, September 18, 2014 (Newswire.com) - On Saturday, Sept. 6, friends and family of Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka flew to Italy to celebrate their communion.
The longtime partners finally decided that it was time to make it official. In 2011, they announced to the public of their engagement. This was following the Marriage Equality Act in New York. Harris revealed that they had already been engaged for 5 years at that time.
The couple has two kids together, 4-year-old twins. Harris explained that their kids were getting old enough to start asking questions. It was then the couple decided that they finally make their relationship official.
The former “How I Met Your Mother” star stated that only 45 people attended the wedding. Both Harris and Burtka only wanted people that mattered most to them to witness the wedding.
The couple rented a castle in Italy and Elton John performed at the ceremony. Their daughter was the flower girl. Their son was supposed to be the ring bearer but instead declared himself “the orange boy” as he handing out oranges to the guests.
Harris was initially worried about his son doing the “orange thing,” but it was actually his daughter who caused troubles during the wedding. As the wedding was about to begin to started fussing and clinging to her father’s leg that she didn’t want to go. The couple decided that they would walk down altogether. Overall, the wedding was very special.
