The 120th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association (APA) will be held in Orlando, Florida this August, and this year psychologists will discover a growing number of telehealth training and networking opportunities. Nationally reno

Orlando, Florida - 7/30/2012 Dr. Marlene Maheu, Executive Director of the TeleMental Health Institute, Inc., has been a pioneer in the telehealth industry with a focus on research and development in telemental health since 1994. She is very pleased that the American Psychological Association (APA) is increasing training options for psychologists who are interested in learning more about the numerous critical aspects of providing telemental health services. It is crucial that we spend the time to connect with one another to understand our respective interests and resources in technology as we prepare our discipline for 21st Century psychology.

Dr. Maheu, along with a dynamic group of psychology and technology professionals, will sponsor a unique networking event for professionals interested in telepsychology and technology from 5:00 to 7:30 PM on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel's lobby bar (across from the Orange County Convention Center). The Telepsychology and Technology Cocktail Party is a no-host event for anyone interested in telehealth, telepsychology, remote care, online counseling, online therapy, virtual reality, virtual worlds, or any other technology mediated treatment, research, or training.

The Telepsychology and Technology Cocktail Party is an excellent opportunity for professionals who are interested in telehealth to talk with members of the proposed Society for Technology and Psychology about their proposed APA Division: the Society for Technology and Psychology. Dr. Maheu looks forward to discussing the how the proposed division will benefit for the profession of psychology and the public. These benefits will include providing a central forum for those with an interest in discussing, sharing and learning about patient-care technologies, and appealing to younger colleagues on whom the future of the profession will depend. APA members who are interested in telehealth are invited to review and sign the petition for the formation of the Society of Technology and Psychology.
