Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. Supports UNICEFs Campaign K.I.N.D.
Philanthropy Starts Young: Employee's Daughter Spearheads Fundraising for Kinds in Need of Desks (K.I.N.D.)
New Haven, Connecticut, July 17, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Neubert, Pepe & Monteith’s employees are committed to community involvement and service and regularly participate in charitable events. The firm is a strong supporter of social services, health services, the arts and education. Most recently the New Haven law firm celebrated the inaugural Neubert, Pepe & Monteith Scholarship awards, an annual scholarship awarded to four college-bound New Haven high school students. The firm is proud to be actively engaged in charitable causes and extremely pleased that the culture of philanthropy has passed on to the next generation.
Attorney Douglas Skalka’s daughter Abbey, a high school student, took decisive action after reading about educational challenges that face students in developing countries. Ms. Skalka believes that education is the key to escaping the cycle of poverty. After informative research Ms. Skalka selected the U.S. Fund for UNICEF campaign K.I.N.D.: Kids in Need of Desks which provides desks and chairs for students in Malawi, Africa. A $65 gift will buy a desk and bench for two students (www.unicefusa.org/donate/be-kind-student-malawi-donate-desk ). UNICEF notes that every day, millions of children throughout Africa struggle to learn while sitting on the floor or on the ground outdoors and equipping pupils with desks and chairs fosters engaged and eager young students. Ms. Skalka agrees that a proper classroom environment promotes effective learning. Further, she states that the benefits of the K.I.N.D. campaign are twofold as the desks are constructed locally creating needed jobs in the Malawi communities.
Ms. Skalka is passionate about education and about helping others. She and some friends formed a club at her school, now 25 strong and growing, to fundraise for the K.I.N.D. campaign. Neubert, Pepe & Monteith’s employees enthusiastically support Ms. Skalka and her classmates’ efforts to raise enough money to furnish an entire Malawi classroom with desks and they pledge donations from this week’s jeans day to the K.I.N.D. campaign.
