New Art Resource For Home Staging

Contemporary art and photography for home and apartment staging makes a big impact, but the cost can be prohibitive. Downloading and printing licensed images is a great way to save money.

Art is an essential element of home staging. The decision to buy or rent art often comes down to price and you generally get what you pay for. Gallery quality art is expensive, even to rent, and anything less runs the risk of being tacky.

Savvy stagers know they can turn to stock photographs and artwork, from micro-stock websites such as iStockphoto and Fotolia. You can print out a downloaded picture, pop it in a frame and put it on the wall. With a small inventory of re-usable frames you can keep a supply of different styles on hand. A word of caution though, standard license agreements generally do not allow you to re-sell the print to your client, so purchase the extended license if you plan to do this.

A new online resource called Studioli.com is making the process better. It's a small gallery of high-resolution images, run by the artists themselves, which can be downloaded for just $10 each. All are suitable for framing at 16" x 20". By comparison, a $10 file from those micro-stock sites will only yield a 5" x 7" print.

Resolution is critical when making large prints. You need at least 240 PPI (pixels per inch) at the actual print size. A typical $10 Studioli image file lets you make a 16" x 20" print, and if you leave a three inch white border before the frame the result will be pretty impressive. If you do a lot of staging a large format printer might be a good investment. Otherwise, take the file to Kinkos or similar and output it on photo quality inkjet paper... for staging it doesn't need to be archival.

Home stagers sometimes need large scale Giclee prints on stretched canvas... behind the headboard or on a vast living room wall. Take a look through the images on www.Studioli.com then call 1-800-698-5856 to discuss your special requirements.

And if you do want archival quality Studioli.com has that covered too. For sophisticated staging and home decor, Studioli.com offers vibrant, continuous tone Lambda prints, suitable for collecting, for just $200. They are archival, museum quality and hand-signed by the original artist.
